Rules of entry and exit from the Republic of Abkhazia

The rules of entry into and exit from the Republic of Abkhazia of foreign citizens (including citizens of the Russian Federation) are regulated by the Law of the Republic of Abkhazia «On the procedure for leaving the Republic of Abkhazia and entering the Republic of Abkhazia.».

To cross the border, Russians must have a Russian national passport or a Russian international passport, and children under 14 must have a birth certificate with an insert or stamp of Russian citizenship or a Russian passport.

For children under the age of 18 travelling from Russia to Abkhazia with at least one parent, a power of attorney from the other parent is not required. Attention: in this case, the child must have a birth certificate (even if they are over 14 years old and have their own international or national passport). In this case, a birth certificate will be required to establish the child's relationship with his accompanying person (parent).

Children under the age of 18 who leave the Russian Federation unaccompanied by both parents (caretakers) must have, in addition to their passport, the notarised consent of these people to leave the Russian Federation, indicating the time of departure and the country they intend to visit.

Russian citizens do not need a visa for up to 90 days to visit Abkhazia.

In addition, in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Abkhazia the following categories of foreign citizens entering the Republic of Abkhazia without obtaining visas have been established:

• Foreign citizens - tourists (with the exception of the citizens of Georgia) who enter the Republic of Abkhazia as part of an organised excursion group for a period of no more than 24 hours;
• citizens of the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Kazakhstan who enter the Republic of Abkhazia for tourist or business purposes for a period of no more than two weeks.

When entering and leaving the Republic of Abkhazia, the following customs rules must be taken into account:

• ◦ The list of goods for personal use prohibited for importation into the customs territory of the Republic of Abkhazia (or) export from this territory.
• ◦ Goods for personal use transported across the customs border, with exemption from customs duties.
• ◦ Goods for personal use, transported across the customs border, with payment of customs duties and taxes.

ATTENTION PASSENGERS! ALCOHOL CAN BE TRANSPORTED IN BAGGAGE NO MORE THAN 5 LITRES PER PASSENGER ONLY IN CONTAINERS INTENDED FOR RETAIL TRADE (FACTORY PACKAGING WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S LABEL).
